2024 Washington State Duck and Goose Calling Championship
On Saturday August 7, 2021 two‐ me World Goose Calling Champion Kile Jones of Yelm, WA won the WWA sponsored Washington State Sanctioned Duck Calling Championship, punching his ticket to represent Washington at the World Duck Calling Championships held in Stuttgart, AR Thanksgiving. Kile also won the WA Open Goose Calling competition. There were also a Novice Duck Calling and a Youth Duck Calling contests. For a complete listing of all winners in all events, see the adjacent page.
Shortly after his success at the WA state event, Kile posted on his Instagram account (_kilejones) —
“Thank y’all so much. I can’t thank @wa_waterfowl_assoc enough for putting the event on. I hadn’t been to the Sumner sportsman’s club since i was 14. I moved shortly after. The WWA is what ignited my passion for waterfowl and that ultimately led to a career. Mentorship is so vital, we have the ability to change someone’s life, like y’all changed mine.”
This is the first calling contest the SW Chapter has been able to put on since 2019, because of Covid‐19. Thank You to Tara Stevens and the Sumner Sportsmen’s Club for once again being such great hosts for the event.
SW Chapter member Nathan Neideigh, the contest coordinator, out did himself this year. Nathan had been busy for many months before the event soliciting all of the prizes, as well as making arrangements for the venue, various awards, plaques, etc. Simply put — This contest wouldn't work without him and has never been a financial success for WWA until Nathan took over the reins several years ago!
Volunteers (and a lot of them) is also a necessary ingredient in making any event a success, and the Washington Calling Contest is no exception. The event day itself all starts with hours of preparation and set up of the calling stage, and the judging booths situated sufficiently “blind” to the actual callers. A special thanks to Kurt Snyder, Chairman of the Grays Harbor Chapter, once again taking care of the calling stage and handling of all the contestants throughout the contest, and to Rob Strong for his official score keeping and arranging for the judges – some traveling halfway across the state to give up their Saturday to give credence to the efforts of all the callers.
